RDFC Practices and Tournaments

The Red Devil Fencing Club believes that success in fencing can only come through dedication and practice.  Developing muscle memory through repetition of blade- and footwork allows fencers to more easily defeat their opponents and progress in the sport.  RDFC holds practice three days per week, has a partnership with a nearby fencing club, and will attend tournaments that will allow RDFC members to become better athletes (and have fun doing it!).

Practices

RDFC fencers have multiple opportunities to attend the minimum of two practices per week required to be a competitive member. Fencers are highly encouraged to attend more than the minimum number of practices; what an athlete puts into their sport is the amount of achievement that (s)he can expect to get out of it.

Practices will be at the high school from 3:15-5:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Fencing at NIFC counts toward the required two practices.  Fencers are required to wear tennis shoes and long athletic pants or jeans in which they can lunge properly; however, by October 1st of each season all fencers must have purchased their fencing whites, which are a requirement for fencing in high school  tournaments. Women's fencers must also wear a chest protector; men must wear a cup.

NIFC Practices

Tournaments

Lowell High School fencers also have the opportunity to join the Northwest Indiana Fencing Club of St. John for $120 plus a $5 USFA insurance membership per year.

Joining NIFC is a great opportunity for RDFC fencers for a number of reasons.  First, multiple high school coaches are able to provide short, individual lessons during practice.  Second, the number of experienced fencers who frequent NIFC and call it their fencing home provide a more realistic fencing atmosphere and push fencers to achieve more than they could from simply fencing others at their same ability level.

For the 2014-2015 season, RDFC has its first year of full membership in the Great Lakes High School Fencing Conference.  We will be attending 9 tournaments:
